How to read a COA
What to check on every certificate.
A certificate is only useful if it matches your vial and comes from a lab you can verify. Here's what to look for.
Product & lot number
The lot on the certificate must match the lot printed on your vial exactly. If it doesn't, that COA doesn't describe your vial.
Printed on the vial label
Date of analysis
When the laboratory ran the tests. Check that it is recent relative to the lot's manufacture.
In the document header
Purity (HPLC)
High-performance liquid chromatography reports the percentage of the target compound relative to impurities.
Listed under analytical results
Identity (mass spectrometry)
Confirms the measured molecular weight matches the expected value for the compound named on the label.
Listed as MS or LC-MS
Net content
How much of the vial's mass is the compound itself, as opposed to counter-ions and residual moisture.
Shown as a percentage or mg per vial
Testing laboratory
Name of the independent lab that performed the analysis, so results are verifiable by a third party.
